Allergology Including Food Allergies
Allergies have many causes. The task is to identify them – then the right therapy can be found as well.
Hay fever, allergic asthma, food allergies, and hives (urticaria) occur more frequently in people with atopic dermatitis (atopy). Many suffer from contact allergies to nickel, cosmetics, or fragrances, from sun allergy, or from drug allergies. Rarer, but more dangerous, is insect venom allergy to bee or wasp venom.
A medical history and full-body examination are followed by the appropriate allergy tests: prick test, scratch test, patch test, challenge test, and blood tests (RAST, total IgE, differential blood count).
The therapeutic spectrum ranges from allergen immunotherapy (hyposensitization) to creams and non-drowsy antihistamines to Xolair®; for anaphylaxis, an emergency kit is indicated.
