Excessive Sweating

Excessive sweating is a heavy burden: the fear of a sweating episode causes additional stress – and with it, even more sweating. Yet today there are modern, very well tolerated treatment methods.
For localized sweating, solutions or gels containing aluminum chloride are suitable; they narrow the sweat gland ducts but can sometimes irritate the skin. Very popular, because extremely well tolerated, is the injection of botulinum toxin into the armpits, hands, or feet: nearly painless in the armpits thanks to a numbing cream, and with anesthesia for hands and feet; the treatment is repeated every 6–12 months. Another option is tap water iontophoresis. Somewhat more involved, but permanently effective, is sweat gland suction in the armpits. Special tablets help against whole-body sweating.
Afterwards, the body still has plenty of sweat glands – sweating remains possible, just no longer massive in the problem areas.
